About the program
The Mother and Child Health Program by Noora Health is dedicated to improving maternal and neonatal outcomes by empowering caregivers with practical, life-saving skills. It focuses on delivering accessible, culturally relevant education through hospital-based training and mobile platforms, helping families care for newborns and new mothers.
Challenge
Scalability of Design: With the program expanding into more regions, maintaining consistency and cultural relevance across diverse populations became a pressing challenge.
Behavioural Change: Encouraging caregivers to adopt new care practices consistently to improve maternal and newborn health outcomes.
Visual Consistency for Varied Literacy Levels: As the reach expanded, creating accessible materials that worked across different literacy levels while retaining visual coherence was crucial.
Design Approach
The program uses a human-centered design to develop culturally relevant and visually accessible educational materials. Training involves videos, demonstrations using tools like dolls, and interactive sessions led by nurses and health educators.
These sessions, often conducted in postnatal wards, are reinforced through digital platforms, providing continuous support post-discharge. The WhatsApp-based follow-up includes behavior-change messaging in engaging formats such as storytelling, videos, and multimedia to ensure retention and easy application of key practices.
My Role
I spearheaded a redesign, moving from static pamphlets to dynamic, visual-first tools that caregivers could easily engage with, regardless of literacy. We also reinforced mobile-based follow-up systems, utilizing WhatsApp to deliver interactive, culturally relevant content and real-time support.
The visual strategy was modular, ensuring adaptability across regions without losing the core message. Every design element was rigorously tested and iterated with real users to ensure it met practical needs.
