About the All team Retreat

Yoga Yuga was my graduating project, part of a business design course focused on exploring hand-made products in India. The project took me to Tripura under the Tripura Bamboo Mission, where I researched local craftsmanship and sustainable materials. My role focused on branding and packaging for a completely natural yoga mat, while my teammate handled the product design.

Challenge

Branding a Handmade Product: Creating a visual identity that not only conveyed the authenticity and sustainability of the yoga mat but also reflected the cultural richness of Tripura’s craftsmanship.

Cultural Sensitivity: Ensuring that the branding and packaging honored local traditions while appealing to a broader, global market focused on wellness and sustainability.

Sustainable Packaging: Developing packaging that was both environmentally friendly and aligned with the natural ethos of the product, without compromising on aesthetics or durability.

Design Approach

I began by defining the core visual elements that would represent the values of Yoga Yuga: sustainability, craftsmanship, and mindfulness. The branding drew heavily from the region’s bamboo-based craftsmanship and natural resources, which influenced both the design aesthetic and material choices for the packaging.

To ensure the packaging and branding were cohesive, I integrated local art motifs and natural textures into the design, creating a visual identity that resonated with both the product’s origins and the global wellness community. I also focused on sustainability in material selection, opting for eco-friendly packaging solutions that complemented the mat’s all-natural appeal.

My Role

As the Branding and Packaging Designer, I took the lead in creating the visual identity and packaging for Yoga Yuga. I worked closely with the product designer to ensure that the brand's narrative aligned with the product’s ethos. Through multiple iterations, we refined the branding to balance cultural authenticity with market appeal, ensuring it resonated with both local craftsmanship and the global yoga community.
